Torque Converter Inspection
A torque converter is a device that takes over the duties of a clutch when used in automatic transmission applications. Usually in manual transmission applications, the clutch transfers the power generated by the engine to the transmission smoothly. The torque converter works in similar ways on an automatic transmission. It is a fluid coupling, meaning that it allows the engine to run mostly independent from the transmission. When you press the accelerator, more fluid is pumped into the torque converter, creating pressure and forcing the torque onto the transmission and drivetrain. When you release the accelerator, the pressure decreases, lessening the amount of torque sent to the wheels. If your engine is not transmitting power to the drive wheels, bring it in immediately for service to Lucas Auto Care.
