Is your brake pad indicator on your Mercedes Benz dashboard? Most Mercedes driver’s are not aware of the specialty brake components on their vehicles that allows for premium stopping power. Modern technology has replaced the old “squeal strip“ method with an electronic sensor that turns on a message on the dash board that indicates that your brake system needs attention. Typically when this message appears your brake pads, rotors and sensors need replacement.Whether you need front or rear brakes, it is important to replace all three components on your Mercedes Benz:
Here’s a little bit of information on why it is necessary to replace all 3 components during your Mercedes Benz brake service:
If you can feel the grooves with your fingernail, the rotor is probably too rough to create a new smooth service
If a rotor is too thin, the rotor will warp
No rotor should be re-used unless you have measured its thickness with a micrometer and it’s proven to be over the manufacture minimum thickness spec. The specification allows for a certain amount of wear to occur before the rotor reaches the end of its service life.
Brake sensors are a one-time use item, as well, and need to be replaced with the other parts of the Mercedes Benz braking system.
