Auto RepairCabin Air FilterMaintenance

What Filters Does My Acura Have?

Your Acura, and every other European, import, and domestic automobile for that matter, has three or four filters. We say three or four because some automobiles do not have a cabin filter. Lucas Auto Care lists the filter types below and when they need to be changed. It’s important to get them changed when they need it to ensure that your Acura always operates as efficiently as it can.

Air

The air filter is found in the engine and it has the difficult responsibility of making sure that the air that is routed into your Acura’s combustion chamber is always clean. Air from the outside flows into the engine, and, as you can imagine, it is filled with dirt and dust. The air filter removes all of these contaminants so that only purified air is being burned in the combustion chamber. A dirty air filter will affect your engine’s performance and fuel economy, so make sure to change it every 12,000 miles.

Cabin

As we said above, some automobiles have netting to filter the air that flows into the passenger’s cabin rather than a filter. This netting does not need to be changed. If your Acura has a cabin air filter, however, it needs to be changed every 30,000 miles. One way to know whether this filter is dirty is how you feel when you drive your Acura. If you feel tired or as if you are getting sick, your cabin filter is dirty.

Fuel

The fuel filter does for the diesel fuel or gasoline what the air filter does for the air. It purifies the fuel before it is sprayed into the combustion chamber by the fuel injectors. A dirty or clogged fuel filter can literally prevent you from being able to start your Acura. Change the fuel filter every 30,000 miles. If you drive your Acura for two years and you still haven’t reached 30,000 miles, change the fuel filter then.

Oil

Finally, when we change the oil in your Acura, we automatically change the oil filter. The reason why is that this filter must be changed frequently to ensure that the oil that circulates through your Acura’s engine is always clean. Dirty oil can literally destroy your engine, which is why the oil filter purifies the oil after it is done circulating through the engine to make sure it is clean for the next round.

Lucas Auto Care in Cypress TX, would be happy to inspect your Acura’s filters and change any of the ones that need to be changed. If none of them need to be changed, we will give you their estimated remaining lifespan.
