The recent passing of Sir Sean Connery got us thinking about Aston Martin. This British luxury sports car has been featured in nearly every James Bond film because the character, Agent 007, drives them in the books when he’s working. Sir Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond series, has the fictional character drive a Bentley for personal use, and Lucas Auto Care services both brands. Let’s have some fun and talk about the Aston Martins speeding through some of the Bond movie action scenes.
Goldfinger (1964) – Aston Martin DB5
Men were green with envy, and women’s hearts fluttered as they watched Connery in the third Bond film Goldfinger. Agent 007 drove an Aston Martin DB5 in this installment, a model that was produced only from 1963 to 1965. The Silver Birch sports car used 282 horses to power the 4-liter, straight-six engine. It’s doubtful, however, that stunt drivers pushed the automobile to its max speed of 177 mph.
The Living Daylights (1987) – Aston Martin Vantage V8
Fast forward to 1987 and Timothy Dalton playing Bond. The film was The Living Daylights, and Dalton drove both the Convertible and Volante versions of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. As you figured out, both versions of this model had a powerful V8 engine under the hood, a 5.3-liter V8, to be exact.
Goldeneye (1995) – Aston Martin DB5
Yep! We said the DB5 was only produced between 1963 and 1963 above, but the classic DB5 driven by Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye is such a stunner that we had to put it on the list. The DB5 in this film raced against a Ferrari F355 in a chase scene that has gone down in action cinematic history.
Quantum of Solace (2008) – Aston Martin DBS
Not to be confused with the DB5, the DBS made its Bond movie screen debut in Quantum of Solace. Daniel Craig took over the role of James Bond and sped through the streets in the opening scene. Aston Martin took a cue from Rolls Royce and powered the black DBS in the movie with a V12 engine.
Spectre (2015) – Aston Martin DB10 and DB5
The classic DB5 shows up in numerous Bond movie installments, but the Aston Martin DB10 also made Spectre’s appearance. Aston Martin developed the DB10 specifically for the 2015 film. This flame-throwing, seat-ejecting sports car made movie history and left fans wanting more customizations.
The next bond installment is scheduled to premiere in 2021, and we here at Lucas Auto Care in Cypress, TX, cannot wait. Who knows what Aston Martin Bond will drive next?
