Snowy Launch for Ferrari’s 2012 F1 Racer and SUV(!)

The weather gods must have a sense of humor — while all eyes in the U.S. are focused on Indianapolis, where the weather is surprisingly balmy and snow-free, the rest of the world is far more interested in launches of 2012 Formula One race cars.

Maranello, the home of Scuderia Ferrari, has far more snow than usual; so much in fact that today’s planned unveiling of its F2012 F1 car only occurred online as the planned official unveiling and test session had to be cancelled. You can check out the unveiling and see details on the controversial looking F1 car on Ferrari’s special website. Even Ferrari admitted the design was ‘not aesthetically pleasing’ at the launch.

Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, the Scuderia Ferrari drivers, had no problems getting around Maranello as they, ironically or perhaps fortuitously, took delivery yesterday of two special Ferrari Red Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 SUVs. Just imagine, if Fiat had not taken over control of Chrysler they’d only have the Ferrari FF to skate around in as their daily drivers in the snow!

The two identical custom-built Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 SUVs feature classic Ferrari brand styling cues and the unmistakable Rosso Corsa signature color.
According to a Jeep news release exclusive details include a matt black painted dual-pane sunroof, carbon fiber mirror surrounds and a gloss black rear light bar with red accents on the Jeep logo. To complete the unique exterior trim of the two custom-built SRT8 models, the Italian flag has been painted on the underside of the rear spoiler as a tribute to the Ferrari F150º Formula One car.

In line with the vehicle’s custom exterior, exclusive Ferrari Red leather inserts on the seats with sculpted bolsters enhances the interior. Also the door trim panels, the central armrest and the instrument panel boast exclusive red leather. The leather-wrapped SRT8 steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters features red contrasting stitching. The unique instrument cluster features yellow dials, which give the cabin a look of the GT cars produced by Ferrari.
Ride height has been lowered 1.5 inches and both vehicles have unique forged aluminum, 20-inch wheels painted black. Jeep claims it is the most powerful and best handling Jeep ever made.

With Bentley and Lamborghini potentially set to unveil a SUV could this special Grand Cherokee SRT8 possibly hint at a future Ferrari SUV?
